Strand – The Strand Community Policing Forum (CPF) has issued an urgent safety warning following a recent spike in criminal activity near Broadlands Road, especially around 11th Street, Broadlands Village, and Helderberg Park.
These areas have been flagged as crime hotspots, particularly during the early morning hours when many residents are commuting on foot.
“I leave for work at 5 a.m. and it’s honestly frightening now,” said Nomsa Jacobs, a Broadlands Village resident. “We’ve heard too many stories of people being robbed on their way to the taxi rank. It’s time something is done.”
In response to community outcry, the South African Police Service (SAPS) has been officially notified and is expected to increase visible patrols from as early as 4:30 a.m. along these key danger zones.
The CPF strongly advises residents to:
-
Avoid walking alone – travel in groups whenever possible.
-
Keep valuables out of sight or avoid carrying them altogether.
-
Stay alert and immediately report suspicious activity.
“We are doing everything we can to work with SAPS to protect our residents. Your safety is our priority,” said a CPF spokesperson.
