For Slain SAPS Sergeant
CCN Reporting team
CAPE TOWN:- In the quiet stillness of dawn, just before he was due to report for duty, a 48-year-old police Sergeant was gunned down outside his home in Thys Witbooi Street, Vrygrond.
He was in full uniform, ready to serve, unaware that death waited just steps from his front door.
🕊️ “A uniform worn with honour – A life taken in cold blood.”
It was 05:00am this morning, when the shots rang out, shattering the peace of a sleeping neighbourhood. Moments later, his body lay still on the ground, a life dedicated to service extinguished in a calculated act of violence. Inside the house, his family remained unharmed, but forever changed.
The officer was a respected member of the Wynberg SAPS, known for his calm leadership, dedication, and love for his country.
His daughter, in tears outside their home, whispered,
“He left every morning in his uniform like a soldier. He never said goodbye like it was the last time, but I felt something different today.
My father didn’t deserve this.”
The news of his murder has shocked the nation and led to an all-out manhunt.
Provincial Commissioner of the Western Cape, Lieutenant General (Adv.) TE Patekile, expressed deep outrage and sorrow, declaring:
“An attack on any member of the South African Police Service will be met with the full force of the law, we will not rest until justice is served.”
He has ordered that no resource be spared in tracking down the perpetrators, entrusting the high-level investigation to the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, (DPCI) the Hawks.
This tragedy highlights not only the dangerous reality faced by police officers daily but also the urgent need for community solidarity in the fight against crime.
As a nation mourns, the SAPS has called on the public to assist in the investigation. Any piece of information, no matter how small, could bring closure to a grieving family and justice for a fallen hero.
