HOPEFIELD:- When people talk about Israel, the conversation almost always turns to politics.
Arguments about borders, governments, or international resolutions. But very few take a moment to truly look beyond the headlines – beyond the noise, and consider the facts that defy logic.
– Let me put it into perspective – Israel is tiny.
It is smaller than the Kruger National Park in South Africa, you can drive across it in a few hours. Its entire population is roughly comparable to that of a mid-sized American city. And yet… this small piece of land has been at the centre of global attention for decades.
Surrounded by nations often hostile towards it. Targeted by boycotts, sanctions, terror, and open warfare. Repeatedly condemned by international bodies like the United Nations. Yet Israel stands, and more than that, Israel thrives.
– Consider this…
Israel has been attacked in every major war since its modern founding in 1948.
The Six-Day War in 1967, Israel was supposed to be wiped out. Instead, they took back Jerusalem.
The Yom Kippur War in 1973, a surprise attack on their holiest day, they still survived.
Countless terror attacks, rocket barrages, and assassination attempts, and yet, they live.
But How?
For a nation with no oil wealth – no vast natural resources – no size advantage, how does Israel not only survive, but lead the world in technology, agriculture, security, and medical advancements?
– They turn desert into farmland.
– They pull drinking water from the air.
– They develop defence systems that seem like science fiction.
– They rescue hostages from the worst regimes on Earth.
– They survive – again and again, against impossible odds.
It leaves many uncomfortable, because if it’s not resources… if it’s not foreign aid… if it’s not luck… then what is it?
The uncomfortable answer is staring us in the face:
Israel is not just another country, it is the birthplace of God’s story on Earth.
For those who read the ancient texts, whether Jewish, Christian, or even just curious… Israel’s survival and success are not a modern mystery. They are a living fulfilment of promises made thousands of years ago.
The Hebrew prophets spoke of a time when the Jewish people, exiled and scattered across the world, would return to their ancestral land. The language would be revived, the cities rebuilt. The deserts would bloom. And against all odds, they would stand.
Sound familiar?
We are watching it happen in real time.
As a boy growing up in Hopefield, I saw the quiet strength of the Jewish community. Gaby and Mathew Meltzer, two brother building a relationship with the Hopefield community in the early 50’/ 70’s. They owned the shops, the hotel, the furniture stores. They knew the people, they trusted their customers, they gave credit to families struggling to make ends meet. They didn’t just do business, they built relationships. They contributed, quietly and consistently, to the life of the town.
Today, as Israel faces new attacks and old hatred, I think back to those memories. I see the same resilience, the same quiet determination. And I cannot help but wonder, if what we are seeing on the global stage, is not just politics, but prophecy unfolding.
Israel’s story is not perfect, but it is real. And it refuses to disappear, no matter how much the world wishes otherwise.
