Phillippi:- Western Cape detectives investigating the violent attack on three Members of Parliament in Philippi have made a second arrest.
Police confirmed that a 16-year-old boy was taken into custody in Browns Farm during the early hours of Wednesday morning. He has since been charged in connection with the incident.
The first suspect, an 18-year-old man, was apprehended on Tuesday evening when he arrived at a Lentegeur medical facility seeking treatment for a gunshot wound. Investigators believe he was struck when one of the victims returned fire during the attempted hijacking. He remains in hospital under police guard.
According to reports, the attack was carried out by three suspects. With two already in custody, detectives expect to make another arrest soon. Both suspects face charges of attempted murder and attempted hijacking.
Police say the investigation is continuing, and further updates will follow as more arrests are made.
