Elsies River:- What began as a tragic update about a baby wounded in a shooting in Elsies River, has ended in heartbreak.
The infant was initially rushed to hospital by private vehicle after being shot while in the arms of his alleged father, who is believed to have been the intended target of rival gang members. Reports later confirmed that the child was transferred by ambulance to the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital in Cape Town in critical condition.
Despite numerous attempts by medical teams to stabilize him, the little boy sadly passed away earlier today.
This senseless act of violence has once again highlighted the devastating impact of gang warfare on innocent lives in Cape Town communities. Children, who should be safe in their parents’ arms, are being caught in crossfire — and families are left to mourn the consequences of battles not their own.
Community members have expressed outrage and deep sadness. “An innocent child had to pay the ultimate price because of gang wars,” one resident told CCN. “How many more children must die before something changes?”
Others described the scene as one of disbelief and sorrow. “The thought that a baby was shot while being held by his own father is unbearable. We as a community cannot get used to burying our children.”
Police have not yet released official details about arrests, but investigations are underway.
