Communities Bleeding While Justice System Fails

Western Cape:-  In just one month, gangs have slaughtered at least 130 people across the Cape Flats, Malmesbury, and Stellenbosch.👉🏼 In Mitchells Plain alone, nine people were gunned down in gang-related murders on a single Sunday.

This wave of violence is tearing communities apart, yet South Africa’s justice system continues to fail those it is meant to protect.

Last month, a woman living alone on a smallholding near Hopefield was brutally attacked with a pick handle and left for dead in a pool of blood. With her last strength, she managed to send an SMS to her neighbor before losing consciousness.

Hopefield police were alerted, but allegedly refused to respond, claiming it fell under the Bergrivier Municipality. Only when Laaiplek police were called, did officers go out of their way to help. The suspect was arrested, but shockingly, when brought before the Laaiplek court, he was released immediately.

The victim, then still recovering in hospital, remains in danger. The court failed to consider that she lives alone and vulnerable, while the accused denies the attack. Meanwhile, the very police who allegedly refused to attend the call-out face serious questions.

The incident happened in the Saldanha Bay municipality area, and everyone believe the small holding is in the Hopefield policing area.  The question remains, area or not, why was no action taken by the Hopefield police?

South Africans are tired of excuses. When killers, rapists, and violent offenders walk free, it sends a clear message: criminals have more rights than victims.

The country is bleeding,  not just from bullets and brutal attacks, but from a justice system that has lost its backbone. Until there is accountability in our police stations and our courts, communities on the Cape Flats and beyond will continue to live in fear.

✍️ Cape Coast News calls on authorities to urgently restore faith in the justice system.  We demand accountability, we demand action, and we demand protection for every citizen – because silence is no longer an option.
