Cape Town:- In a swift and coordinated operation, members of the Maitland Flying Squad, working closely with CarTrack, arrested two suspects aged 32 and 34 on Thursday morning, 23 October 2025, for possession of a hijacked vehicle and an unlicensed firearm.
The action unfolded after officers responded to a hijacking complaint involving a minibus taxi in Delft. Using tracking signals, the team traced the vehicle to Spine Road, where it was intercepted near Town Two, Khayelitsha.
All passengers were found safe and unharmed, thanks to the quick response by law enforcement and CarTrack’s real-time tracking technology. During the search, officers confiscated a 9mm pistol and ammunition believed to be used during the hijacking.
The two suspects remain in custody and are expected to appear in the Bellville Magistrates’ Court soon.
Police praised the effective collaboration between private tracking companies and specialized SAPS units, saying such teamwork continues to turn the tide against violent vehicle-related crimes in the Western Cape.
“Operations like these show how intelligence and technology can save lives and stop criminals in their tracks,” said a senior SAPS source.
