Grabouw:- Two suspects were arrested in separate incidents on Monday evening, following swift police action in Grabouw and Makhaza.
Members from the Caledon Public Order Policing Unit and the Makhaza Crime Prevention Unit made the arrests during routine patrols and crime prevention operations.
According to police reports, officers from the Caledon Public Order Policing Unit were patrolling the Phumlani Bosbou informal settlement near Grabouw at around 19:45 when they were approached by a community member who alerted them to possible drugs and firearms at a nearby address.
Acting swiftly, the officers proceeded to the location and conducted a search. During the operation, they found a male suspect in possession of 19 tik straws and four and a half mandrax tablets. The suspect was arrested and detained at Grabouw SAPS. Once charged, he will appear in the Grabouw Magistrate’s Court.
In a separate incident, members of the Makhaza Crime Prevention Unit were conducting stop-and-search operations along Spine Road at approximately 19:15. They stopped a silver VW and conducted a search of the vehicle. On the back seat, officers noticed two large white bags, which were found to contain copper cables.
A 41-year-old male suspect was arrested for possession of stolen copper and will appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrate’s Court once charged.
Police have praised the public for their assistance and urged continued cooperation in the fight against crime.
“We value the community’s role in providing information that leads to arrests. Working together, we can ensure criminals are brought to justice,” a police spokesperson said.
These arrests once again highlight the effectiveness of community-police collaboration and the commitment of officers to maintain law and order across the Western Cape.
