BOLAND:- A 31-year-old man has been sentenced to life imprisonment in the Worcester Regional Court for raping his partner’s 10-year-old daughter on a Rawsonville farm in 2022.
His identity is withheld to protect the child.
The victim reported the assault only after moving to Paarl, where a relative noticed changes in her behaviour. A police case was opened and she was taken for medical care and trauma support at the Worcester Thuthuzela Care Centre. She has since been placed in safe care.
Prosecutors argued that the accused abused his position of trust and that the child continues to suffer emotional trauma. The court imposed life imprisonment, stressing the need to protect children and send a strong message against gender-based violence.
