Four gunned down in Khayelitsha yard shooting
CCN Reporting
KHAYELITSHA:- A quiet evening of friends gathered in a backyard to watch soccer, ended in horror on Tuesday when four armed men stormed a residence in Harare and opened fire, killing four people and wounding another.
The attack unfolded at approximately 20:15 on 10 March 2026 in Ntlazane Road, where a group of patrons was relaxing in the yard. Three victims died instantly at the scene. A fourth man later succumbed to his injuries after being rushed to hospital.
The deceased were all men aged between 30 and 38. A 59-year-old victim is still receiving medical treatment.
Police say the property appears to have been operating as an unlicensed liquor outlet, commonly known locally as a shebeen, and preliminary investigations point to extortion as a possible motive.
This type of targeted violence has become a grim reality for many informal businesses across Cape Town’s townships.
The four suspects fled the scene on foot and remain at large. Detectives from the Western Cape’s Provincial Serious and Violent Crime Unit have launched a full manhunt and are pursuing several active leads.
No arrests have been made.
This latest shooting once again casts a spotlight on the fragile sense of safety in Harare, where residents simply trying to enjoy a football match paid with their lives.
Police have appealed for information from the public to help bring the gunmen to justice.
