As Delft and Khayelitsha Outages Continue

Cape Town:- Residents in parts of Delft and Khayelitsha in Cape Town are facing ongoing electricity disruptions as repair teams work under increasingly difficult conditions caused by repeated attacks on electrical infrastructure.

The power utility has confirmed that additional teams have been deployed in an effort to speed up restoration work. However, progress is being slowed by incidents of vandalism, including burned meter kiosks and damage to distribution equipment. These incidents not only extend outages but also place extra pressure on already stretched repair resources.

According to Eskom Western Cape, the situation has reached a point where repaired infrastructure is being damaged again shortly after restoration, resulting in repeated shutdowns and longer waiting times for affected communities.

Eskom has appealed to residents to assist in protecting critical infrastructure and to report any incidents of theft, vandalism, or illegal connections. Reports can be made anonymously via the Eskom Crime Hotline at 0800 11 27 22 or through the nearest South African Police Service station.

The utility says it understands the frustration caused by the outages and has apologised to customers for the inconvenience, thanking them for their patience while restoration work continues.

The affected areas, including Delft and Khayelitsha, have experienced recurring infrastructure damage linked to cable theft and vandalism, which remains a major challenge for service delivery across parts of the Western Cape.

Eskom says it will continue deploying resources to stabilize supply, but stresses that community cooperation is essential to prevent further disruptions.
