With Arrest In Violence-Linked Ongoing Taxi Conflict

In response to the recent spate of taxi violence incidents in Hermanus and Cape Town, detectives from the Provincial Taxi Violence Unit have apprehended several suspects in different investigations.

The Unit’s tracing team members ventured out to Hermanus and Stanford in the Overberg on Saturday, where they arrested two suspects for a shooting incident that occurred at the Zwelihle taxi rank in Hermanus in September 2026, in which two taxi owners were shot and killed by six gunmen who also injured a taxi driver.

The suspects, aged 28 and 36, are expected to appear before the Hermanus Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 26 October 2026, facing murder and attempted murder charges. Meanwhile, in another taxi conflict investigation, where the home of the chairperson of a taxi association in Retreat was petrol-bombed on 30 September 2026, the Taxi Violence Unit team traced a suspect in Kensington over the weekend, where he was arrested.

The 29-year-old is expected to appear in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 26 October 2026.

The same tracing team, following a shooting incident that occurred at the Epping taxi rank and left two taxi owners dead and another injured on 16 October 2026, arrested a 29-year-old wanted suspect at the Langa taxi rank while attending to another taxi conflict murder scene. He is expected to appear in the Bishop Lavis Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 26 October 2026.

Two other suspects had already been apprehended on the day of the Epping shooting incident.

While deployments have been reinforced at identified hotspots for taxi conflict shooting incidents, detectives from the Provincial Taxi Violence Unit are hard at work investigating all recorded cases.
