For Attempted Murder in Alleged Gang Plot.

Cape Town – A City of Cape Town law enforcement officer has been arrested on charges of attempted murder, following a multi-agency investigation that linked him to a Cape Flats gang boss and an alleged plot to target a witness.
The officer, who was part of the City’s high-visibility Project 1 000 initiative, was apprehended during a raid on a property with known ties to gang activity. The operation was triggered after a woman was detained for possession of an unlicensed firearm. A subsequent search of the premises led to the discovery of drugs and illegal weapons.
Police sources confirmed the officer had been under surveillance for several months as part of an ongoing crackdown on gang infiltration within state services. His arrest marks a serious breach of public trust and raises pressing questions about the effectiveness of the City’s vetting systems.
Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, JP Smith, confirmed that the arrest was the result of a coordinated investigation involving multiple law enforcement agencies. “Disciplinary steps are being taken, and we are reviewing internal processes to ensure that individuals with criminal associations are not given access to positions of authority,” Smith said.
As public pressure mounts, the City’s Safety Directorate now faces renewed scrutiny over internal oversight and its role in combating organized crime within its ranks.
