OUDTSHOORN:- The Oudtshoorn Prison in the Western Cape is still under lock-down, following a deadly confrontation between inmates and officials.
A prisoner has been killed and four correctional services wardens wounded during the raid…
It all started when prisons refused to allow them to be searched by wardens. However, Singabakho Nxumalo, a media spokesperson for the prison, informed the media that breakfast, lunch and dinner were provided without any problem. The prisoners who were involved in the confrontation with the wardens were moved to certain cells in the prison. At the moment, everything is back to normal, but the lock-down continues.
No visitors are allowed until there is certainty that everything is back to normal. According to Nxumalo, no prisoner can refuse to be searched, because then they have something to hide…
Comments from readers on the Etv facebook page have the following to say.
- Coetzee Pather – Offenders don’t have rights. You don’t need a warrant to search for an offender. Offenders do not understand that any violation can extend their parole dates.
- Motlatsi Hlahatsi – First place, how did the items including shape object enter the facility? Those are the questions that officials need to answer, and to add daily worden officials need to conduct search, before they start their duties, so that they can be able to eliminate what ever entered the facility without being identified.
- Marvin Jordaan – Unemployed- 370 Prisoners- Breakfast lunch and supper nice for a month quite. Blame the President.
