Northern Cape:- Today, Janna Smit, educator from Concordia, Northern Cape, looks back on this educational journey of about four years.
She is the owner of a day care centre and says: “I’ve had the privilege of shaping young minds for years. My journey began in the education sector, where I taught Grade R children for
several years, instilling in me a deep love for early childhood development.
“I later transitioned to the hotel industry, where I worked until the COVID-19 pandemic rendered me unemployed.
During those challenging times, I realized my true calling lies in nurturing young children. My passion for educating toddlers led me to establish Kasteeltjie Dagsorg, a school dedicated to providing quality care and education to children aged 0-6.
What started with just three toddlers in 2022, has grown exponentially, and we’re now proud to care for 57 children, she proudly told.
The mission of Kasteeltjie is to create a structured environment where children can develop essential cognitive, emotional, and social skills, according to her. She adds:
“We’ve made significant strides, but we still face challenges. One of our primary concerns is securing a permanent building for our school, as we’re currently renting a facility. Additionally, we’re in dire need of educational toys and resources to enhance our children’s learning experience.”
Despite these challenges, Kasteeltjie Dagsorg has become a beacon of hope and growth for the community of Concordia. So many toddlers have already gone to the institution gaining vast development and experience from it.
Smit is still grateful for the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of these young children and their families. This popular day care facility is still growing and evolving, hence Smith remains committed to providing the best possible education and care for our children.
Kasteeltjie Dagsorg centre needs things like outdoor play equipment besides toys, ect. ect. She calls upon funders and business people to invest in his important link in pre-school education. Her cell no is: 060 398 9334.
She concludes:
“With the support of our community and partners, I’m confident that we’ll overcome our challenges and create a brighter future for the children of Concordia.”
Meanwhile, parents are kindly reminded to register their kids for 2026, as from 13 August to 26 September, 2025.
