As Police Intensify Crackdown on Drug Distribution

Cape Town:- The relentless fight against drugs in the Cape Flats continues, with police making two significant arrests during targeted operations in Manenberg on Sunday, 16 November 2025.
According to police, #OperationShanela2 members deployed in the area acted on credible information regarding narcotics stored at a residence in Elsieskraal Road, Manenberg. Upon searching the premises, officers discovered 150 mandrax tablets and 183 sachets of crystal meth. A 39-year-old man was arrested on charges of drug possession.
Acting on further intelligence, the same officers proceeded to a second house in the same street. There they apprehended a 22-year-old suspect after uncovering mandrax tablets and eight packets of crystal meth inside his home.
Both suspects are expected to appear in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court today.
Firearm and Ammunition Recovered in Separate Operation
In an unrelated incident, Anti-Gang Unit members deployed in Voorbrug executed an intelligence-driven operation in Remhoogte Street following reports of an illegal firearm hidden at a residence.
During the search, officers discovered a black 9mm pistol, along with a shoebox containing 24 rounds of ammunition. The firearm and ammunition were seized, and an enquiry docket has been registered at Delft SAPS for further investigation.
