ON LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS

Valhalla Park:-  The City of Cape Town has confirmed details of a violent incident in Valhalla Park on Thursday afternoon, which left three people injured and several law enforcement vehicles damaged.

According to the City, officers deployed as part of an operation in the area responded to the sound of gunfire at approximately 15:26. While approaching the scene, they encountered a suspect running with a firearm, who allegedly pointed it at their vehicle. The driver lost control and collided with a wall, injuring three people.

As officers assisted the injured, a group of bystanders turned on them, pelting their vehicle with stones and attempting to set it alight. Items were also stolen from the vehicle. At least three additional Law Enforcement vehicles that responded to the scene were also stoned.

The injured individuals were transported to Tygerberg Hospital for medical treatment.

LEAP officers involved in the incident have since been debriefed and are receiving support through the City’s Employee Assistance Programme (EAP). One suspect has been arrested for malicious damage to property.

The City has condemned the attack and announced a reward of R20 000 for information leading to the arrest of those responsible for the damage and theft of City assets.

Anonymous information can be shared via the City’s 24/7 Tip-off Line: 0800 110 077 (free call). All calls are confidential and identities will be protected.
