During Operation Shanela II in the Cape
By CCN Reporter

CAPE TOWN:- The continued efforts by Operation Shanela II members to curb drug-related crimes in Cape Town,  led to two major arrests on Monday, 27 October 2025.

During a stop-and-search operation in 5th Avenue, Ravensmead, at around 15:45, officers pulled over a vehicle driven by an adult male. Upon searching the car, they uncovered a large quantity of dagga.  It including 27 kilograms of loose dagga, 200 dagga cigarettes, 40 small packets, and a scale commonly used for weighing drugs. The suspect was immediately arrested and is expected to appear in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court on charges of dealing in drugs.

In a separate early-morning operation, members of Operation Shanela II acted on intelligence regarding alleged drug activity at a residence in Lerochell Crescent, Heather Park, Eerste Rivier. When officers arrived at approximately 06:45, they found a 63-year-old woman on the premises.  A search of the house led to the seizure of 319 small packets of tik and an additional 50 grams of the substance.  The woman was arrested for possession and dealing in drugs and will appear in the Blue Downs Magistrate’s Court.

Both incidents highlight the South African Police Service’s ongoing commitment to removing drugs from communities through the intensified Operation Shanela II campaign.

“These arrests demonstrate that SAPS remains relentless in tackling the drug trade that continues to destroy lives and families,” said a police spokesperson.

Police have urged the public to continue reporting suspicious activities anonymously through the SAPS Crime Stop line at 08600 10111.
