And Safety in Western Cape Neighborhoods

By Cape Coast News

Cape Town:- Residents across parts of the Western Cape are voicing serious concerns about rising gang-related incidents and violence in their communities, highlighting fears for children and local residents. In Silvertown’s Petunia Road, residents reported gunfire in the early hours of Wednesday morning, causing panic among families. Community members expressed alarm over the activities of local gang members, citing ongoing threats, robbery, and shootings that have left children afraid to attend school. “If they don’t shoot, they rob people,” one resident said, referring to the gang operating in the area.

Meanwhile, law enforcement continues to address gang activity. The Anti-Gang Unit recently arrested three suspects in Kensington for alleged involvement in murder, attempted murder, illegal possession of ammunition, and drug dealing. SAPS emphasizes its commitment to a safe and secure environment, but residents feel the visible presence of gang-related weapons on the streets remains alarming. SAPS statement here

Tragically, a deceased individual was discovered on Wednesday, 12 November, behind the Wynberg Motors building at the corner of Rosemead Avenue and Ottery Road in Plumstead. According to authorities, the individual had reportedly been missing since Saturday and may have passed away on Sunday morning. SAPS and emergency services responded promptly, but the cause of death remains under investigation.

Community members are urged to remain vigilant and to contact Crime Stop at 08600 10111 if they have any information that could assist the police. Residents are also encouraged to check on vulnerable individuals to ensure their safety.

The incidents underscore ongoing safety concerns in several Western Cape neighborhoods, highlighting the urgent need for continued community engagement and law enforcement support to curb gang violence and protect local residents.
