Fake Police Members Arrested and Killed by Police

CCN News Reporting

Free State: – Two suspects impersonating police officers (dressed in SAPS uniforms, driving a VW Golf 7 fitted with blue lights and sirens) were killed yesterday in a shootout with a multi-agency police team during a high-speed chase on the R59.

The chase ended when their vehicle crashed into a fence near Parys, Free State.  Police recovered unlicensed firearms, ammo, fake plates, and more gear used for these crimes.

This matches reports from multiple sources, including SA Government News, SABC, IOL, SowetanLive, and Jacaranda FM – all confirming the details from official SAPS statements.

What are “blue light” robberies?

These are a nasty tactic where criminals pose as cops: they fit ordinary cars (often VW Polo’s or Golfs) with illegal blue flashing lights and sirens, pull motorists over on quiet roads or at night, then rob, hijack, or kidnap victims, sometimes holding them for hours to drain bank accounts at ATMs.

Good on the police for taking these two off the streets, intelligence-led ops like this are making a dent.  But the warning is spot on:

Safety tip everyone needs to remember

If a vehicle with blue lights tries to pull you over in a dodgy or isolated spot, don’t stop immediately. Slow down, put on your hazards to show you’re complying, and drive calmly to the nearest police station, petrol station, or well-lit public area.  You can even call 10111 to verify if it’s legit police.

Stay vigilant out there, report anything suspicious to Crime Stop on 08600 10111, and share this, could save someone’s life or livelihood.
