Van Rhynsdorp:- South African Police Service members have recovered prohibited and unlicensed firearms in two separate intelligence – driven operations this week.In Van Rhynsdorp, members discovered a prohibited firearm at the flat of a 46-year-old male suspect on school Street on Monday, 15 June 2026.   The suspect was already in custody for attempted murder; additional charges have been added.  He is expected to appear in the Van Rhynsdorp Magistrate’s Court soon.

In a separate incident in Mitchells Plain on Tuesday, 16 June at approximately 17:25,

Lentegeur SAPS members responded to a complaint about a male with a firearm in a shopping mall. Acting on intelligence, they searched a suspect and recovered an unlicensed firearm. Investigations revealed the weapon was reported stolen in 2025 at Mtubatuba SAPS in KwaZulu-Natal. A 22-year-old male suspect was arrested and will appear in the Mitchells Plain Magistrate’s Court.

Police continue with investigations in both cases.
