WEST COAST: Hopefield and surrounding West Coast communities have new pathways into skills development, workplace experience and longer-term employment through a partnership between House of Boniwe and Rowan Lamont Enterprises, alongside a 12-month internship programme run by the Hopefield Wind Farm Local Community Company (HWFLCC).
House of Boniwe and Rowan Lamont Enterprises have formalised a partnership focused on sustainable development on the West Coast. The collaboration centres on accredited training programmes designed to equip residents with practical skills, create employment opportunities and support community upliftment.
The partners emphasise people, empowerment, sustainability and partnership, aiming to build stronger local livelihoods while protecting the environment and strengthening the regional economy.
Rowan Lamont Enterprises operates within a structured DOL/UIF programme cycle that covers the full project management flow for such training initiatives. This includes needs analysis and labour-market assessment, project planning, funding approval, procurement of training providers and resources, learner recruitment, training delivery, assessment and moderation, workplace placement, ongoing monitoring and evaluation, and formal project close-out.
Key cost components typically include facilitators, assessors, moderators, venues, stipends, transport, catering, PPE, and placement support, all governed by relevant DOL/UIF conditions, skills development legislation, the NQF Act, and SETA quality-assurance requirements.
A concrete, time-sensitive opportunity is already open. The Hopefield Wind Farm Local Community Company is inviting applications for its 12-month Internship Programme starting in January 2027. The programme targets young graduates from Hopefield and the immediate surrounding area. Successful candidates will receive structured workplace experience in a community-focused environment, mentorship, professional development, and the chance to participate in funded tertiary studies in Finance and/or Socio-Economic Development.
The initiative aims to create employment pathways, develop local skills, and empower the next generation of community leaders.
Minimum requirements include:
– Age 21–30
– Residence in Hopefield or the immediate surrounding communities
– Unemployed at the time of application
– Graduate preferred; completed Matric (Grade 12) with a minimum average of 65%
– Fluency in English and Afrikaans
– Computer literacy (Microsoft Word, Excel and Office)
– Willingness to participate in funded studies and a commitment to practical workplace experience and community development
Ideal candidates should demonstrate passion for community development, motivation, professionalism, strong communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
