Recover Multiple Unlicensed Firearms in Western Cape
CCN Crime Reporting
Police in the Western Cape have made two significant firearms seizures within 24 hours, recovering five unlicensed pistols and ammunition in separate operations in Beacon Valley and Villiersdorp.
On Wednesday night, members of the Mitchell’s Plain Crime Prevention Unit were conducting routine duties in Polo Street, Beacon Valley, when they heard gunshots. Officers drove towards the sound and saw a Toyota Yaris speeding away. They pursued the vehicle until it stopped and two occupants jumped out and fled on foot. The officers chased and arrested both men. Three 9mm pistols with ammunition were recovered from the scene.
The two adult males face charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition and will appear in the Mitchell’s Plain Magistrates’ Court once charged.
In a separate operation the same day, Villiersdorp police acted on information about alleged extortionists targeting spaza shop owners while driving a grey Kia Picanto and a Suzuki Swift. Officers spotted the Suzuki, stopped it, and searched the vehicle and its occupants. They found a 9mm pistol with 15 rounds of ammunition and a Star .45-calibre pistol with 14 rounds of ammunition. Four suspects aged between 21 and 39 were arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
They are due to appear in the Caledon Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 9 October 2026.
Both operations form part of ongoing efforts under the #GunsOffTheStreets campaign to remove illegal firearms from communities.
