Cape Town – Wouter Wessels, the National Chairperson and Chief Spokesperson for Finance at the FF Plus, has raised concerns about South Africa’s worsening financial crisis, highlighting the impact of Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) on the economy.
“South Africa is facing an unprecedented financial crisis, and ordinary citizens are bearing the brunt of it. The government’s continued implementation of policies like BEE is driving up the cost of goods and services, leaving taxpayers to foot the bill. This situation simply cannot continue,” Wessels stated.
While acknowledging that BEE may have been introduced with good intentions, Wessels argued that it has evolved into a system that primarily benefits a select few while leading to inflated prices and poor economic performance. “The government must stop increasing taxes on already struggling South Africans and instead focus on sustainable ways to grow the economy,” he emphasized.
Addressing the recent VAT increase, Wessels warned that tax hikes would only worsen the country’s economic struggles. “Raising VAT is not the answer. We need tax relief to stimulate economic growth, not policies that further burden an already strained population.”
His statement is clear: the solution lies in promoting real economic growth, reducing wasteful government spending, and discontinuing the BEE system, which he says is harming the economy. “South Africa needs a policy shift—one that prioritizes job creation and sustainable economic expansion rather than perpetuating inefficiency and corruption.”
Wessels concluded with a call for urgent action. “The time for change is now. We must make decisions that will lead to a stronger, more prosperous future for all South Africans.”
