Hermanus Post Office Robbery
CCN News Reporting
HERMANUS: – On Tuesday, five suspects were arrested within an hour of an armed robbery at the Hermanus Post Office, thanks to the quick co-ordination between local law enforcement agencies in the Overstrand.
Colonel Gustav Tamboer, Station Commander of the Hermanus Police, applaud the Overstrand Municipality’s K9-Unit for their swift response, stating, “This was indeed one of the best arrests ever made in a short space of time after the incident occurred.”
Three men armed with firearms reportedly entered the post office, threatened the postal workers and demanded the keys to the safe. After taking all the cash from the safe, the robbers reportedly tied the workers’ hands with cable ties and demanded one of the workers’ car keys before fleeing the scene.
Following procedure, all necessary information about the incident was shared between law enforcement agencies in the area. Shortly thereafter members of the Overstrand K9-unit reported spotting a suspicious vehicle in the Kleinmond area.
Upon stopping and searching the vehicle and its occupants, they discovered cash, two firearms, ammunition, and other items, all of which were seized. The suspects were taken into custody and transported to the Hermanus Police Station, where they are expected to appear in court shortly.
