Grassy Park:- In yet another blow to community safety, residents of Pumlani Village woke up on Friday to a heavy police presence as officers moved in on a house suspected of being a drug hub.
Acting on a tip-off, members of the Grassy Park SAPS conducted a dawn raid at around 05:00 on Friday, 25 July 2025, leading to the arrest of a 61-year-old man. Officers reportedly found more than 1,000 Mandrax tablets hidden on the property, with an estimated street value of R43,400.
The bust comes at a time when many community members have raised concerns about the presence of drugs in residential areas, particularly near schools and parks. “We see the children losing themselves to drugs daily. This arrest is welcome, but more still needs to be done,” said a concerned resident who witnessed the arrest.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Wynberg Magistrates Court soon, facing charges related to drug possession and possible distribution.
Grassy Park police have urged residents to continue reporting suspicious activity anonymously, saying it remains one of the strongest tools in the fight against drug-related crime.
