NO ARRESTS YET

Hanover Park residents are once again reeling after yet another senseless act of gang-related violence left four people injured last night.

Police confirmed that a 10-year-old child, a 14-year-old and a 16-year-old teenager were among the victims when six suspects entered Agulhas Court on foot and opened fire. A 38-year-old man was also wounded in the attack.

The suspects fled the scene immediately after the shooting. At this stage, no arrests have been made. Authorities have opened four cases of attempted murder and are calling on anyone with information to come forward.

– Bigger Picture: Justice System Under Fire

This shocking attack highlights once more how crime continues to spiral out of control on the Cape Flats.  Many residents believe that a failing justice system is fuelling the crisis. Criminals spend a short time in jail, often enjoying better conditions inside than outside, before being released back onto the streets.

For Hanover Park families, the reality is heartbreaking: children are caught in the crossfire while justice seems slow and ineffective. Until accountability improves, the cycle of violence, fear and silence will continue.-
