Manenberg’s streets are once again showing the impact of intelligence-driven policing, with technology guiding officers straight to criminal activity.
Authorities confirmed that ShotSpotter technology, a system that detects and pinpoints gunfire, is now helping law enforcement not only respond faster to shootings, but also map gang territorial battles with precision. By analyzing these data reports, officers can adjust their operations in real time.
On Tuesday evening, this proactive approach bore fruit when LEAP officers, guided by intelligence reports, moved into Matilda Court. There they arrested a suspect found in possession of 46 Mandrax tablets.
Police described the success as part of their wider strategy of combining advanced technology with on-the-ground enforcement to strengthen community safety.
“Data helps us decide where to go, how to deploy, and which hotspots need the most urgent attention,” one officer explained.
Residents are hopeful that this modern approach will bring stability to neighbourhoods long plagued by gun violence and drug-related crimes.
