Springbok:- The Public Order Police in Springbok scored major successes during Operation Shanela II, a disruptive operation carried out between 17:30 on Wednesday, 10 September, and 06:00 on Thursday, 11 September 2025.
Delta Relief members from Springbok SAPS launched targeted high-visibility patrols in Springbok and Nababeep, with strategic deployments along the busy N7 and N14 national roads. The operation placed emphasis on proactive crime prevention through vehicle and foot patrols, stop-and-searches, and visible policing at ATM points.
During the operation:
A 52-year-old foreign national male was arrested in Van der Stel Street, Springbok, after police discovered two plastic bags of suspected methamphetamine (Tik) hidden in a cereal box. The drugs have an estimated street value of R299,593.
A 21-year-old local woman was arrested in Brisson Street, Matjieskloof. A lawful search led to the recovery of suspected stolen copper cables valued at R6,137.24, as well as methamphetamine worth R5,784.
Both suspects are expected to appear in court shortly.
Brigadier Schalk Andrews praised the dedication of SAPS members, noting:
> “These arrests demonstrate our relentless commitment to closing the space for criminals, particularly drug dealers, to operate. Recovering stolen property and dismantling drug networks remain a top priority in protecting our communities and economic infrastructure.”
The SAPS has urged the public to continue reporting suspicious activity via its tip-off hotline or by contacting local police stations.
