On Crime Across Cape Town

Cape Flats:- Cape Town’s crime-fighting units have had a busy 24 hours, making significant arrests and recovering illegal firearms and drugs in hotspot areas.

Early this morning, Law Enforcement Advancement Plan (LEAP) officers responded to gunfire in Bishop Lavis, where they arrested a suspect in possession of a 9mm CZ pistol and ammunition. Just hours earlier, LEAP members conducted another successful operation in Hanover Park, seizing a 9mm Star pistol along with ammunition.

In a separate incident last night, Metro Police officers arrested a suspected JFK gang member in Steenberg. The suspect was found in possession of 200 Mandrax tablets and 8 rounds of ammunition.

Authorities say gun violence remains a serious challenge. The ShotSpotter detection system recorded 337 gunfire incidents in just four areas over the last 30 days, prompting swift responses and coordination with SAPS.

Community members are urged to continue supporting law enforcement in their ongoing efforts to curb crime and make neighbourhoods safer.
