Sparks Outrage and Calls for Change

Cape Town:- A disturbing video of a violent schoolyard bullying incident has gone viral, shaking South African communities to the core.
The footage shows a young schoolgirl being physically assaulted, pulled by her hair, pushed to the ground, and repeatedly kicked in the face by another girl.
The attack only ended when a man, believed to be a school security guard, intervened and dragged the perpetrator away from the injured student.
The incident took place at Roosendal High School in Cape Town. The video was shared by local community activist Deon Carelse.
Deon Carelse stated: “We need to make Anti-Bullying a subject in our schools and also Anger Management… This can’t go on. While we are on this topic, some Parental Classes for these bullies’ parents… Yoh… I’m willing to go to prison… Tempt me if you’re gonna try this with my family.”
This shocking footage has ignited a wave of responses online, with many echoing Carelse’s anger and frustration over the normalization of school violence.
Chryliss, a concerned viewer, commented: “This clip should be shown in all schools to raise awareness about bullying. “People should not be judged on their differences (race, religion, sexual orientation, physical appearance, etc.).
Cimal Adams also weighed in, calling for accountability: “Lay assault charges and let the perpetrators have a record.”
A Call for Urgent Change is Need
This video is not just an isolated case, it reflects a larger, urgent crisis in our schools. Bullying, often ignored or downplayed, is robbing young people of safety, dignity, and self-worth. The psychological scars can last a lifetime.
CCN joins the community in calling for:
Mandatory Anti-Bullying Curriculum
In-school Anger Management Programs
Parental Accountability Training
Zero-Tolerance Enforcement with Legal Consequences for Assault
Our schools must become safe spaces for all children. No child should fear going to class. No child should carry trauma caused by their peers. And no community should have to watch another video like this before action is taken.
Let this be a turning point. Not just a moment of shock, but a movement for change.
