In Samora Machel –  Murder Investigation Underway

Reporter – George April

Cape Town:-  A community is in mourning after a 15-year-old girl was tragically shot and killed on her way to school in Samora Machel on  Wednesday morning ,  June 11’th

According to police, the shooting occurred around 08:20 in Ashley Kriel Street, just a short distance from Zisukhanyo Secondary School, where the victim was a Grade 10 learner. Officers responding to the scene found the teenager lying on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds. Paramedics declared her dead at the scene.

Initial reports suggest she was shot four times, with at least one bullet causing a fatal head injury. Although the motive is not yet confirmed, some community members believe she may have been deliberately targeted.

Her father arrived at the scene shortly after the incident and confirmed her identity, adding a deeply personal layer of pain to the tragedy.

The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) has confirmed the girl’s enrollment at Zisukhanyo Secondary and has extended heartfelt condolences to her family, classmates, and educators.

“We are devastated by the loss of one of our learners under such violent circumstances,” said Bronagh Hammond, WCED Director of Communications. “Our thoughts are with her family and the entire school community.”

The department has arranged for counselling services to be offered at the school and has requested increased police patrols during key times when learners travel to and from school.

At this stage, no arrests have been made, and the perpetrators remain at large.

Police have launched a murder investigation and are appealing to the public for help.
