Five Suspects Nabbed in Belgravia and Crawford

Cape Town:- A major blow has been dealt to the local drug trade, after the Maitland Flying Squad intercepted a drug operation spanning Belgravia and Crawford.
This after resulting in the seizure of thousands of mandrax tablets and the arrest of five suspects.
The bust, valued at approximately R700,000, followed an intelligence-driven operation after police received tip-offs about suspected drug activities at a fast-food outlet in the Belgravia area.
Upon arrival, officers observed suspicious behaviour involving occupants of three parked vehicles. One individual was seen discreetly transferring a black bag from one car to another. Police swiftly intervened, conducting a search that uncovered 3,000 mandrax tablets hidden in one of the vehicles. In addition, officers found a significant amount of cash believed to be linked to criminal activity.
Further investigation led the team to a residence in Crawford, where they discovered an additional 13,000 mandrax tablets, along with an undisclosed amount of schedule 1 prescription medication.
According to police spokesperson Captain Frederick van Wyk, a 58-year-old woman and four men aged between 48 and 60 were arrested on the scene. They are facing charges related to drug possession and dealing.
All confiscated drugs, cash, and vehicles have been handed in as evidence at Athlone SAPS, while the suspects’ cellphones have been seized for forensic analysis as part of the ongoing investigation.
The suspects are expected to appear in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court in the coming days.
