In the early hours of Monday, 21 April 2025, members of the Public Order Police executed a targeted operation at a residence in Gladiola Street, Hillview, where they discovered a 9mm pistol and 108 rounds of ammunition. A 24-year-old male was taken into custody after failing to provide a valid firearm license or permit. The arrest marks another step forward in law enforcement’s campaign to remove illegal firearms from the streets.
Meanwhile, a separate operation in Tees Road, Manenberg on Sunday, 20 April, resulted in the arrest of two suspects aged 33 and 41. During a search of the premises, officers recovered 65 packets of crushed mandrax and 16 packets of crystal meth, underscoring concerns about the ongoing drug trade fuelling violence in the area.
The arrested individuals are expected to appear in the Muizenberg and Athlone Magistrates’ Courts today, 22 April 2025, on charges related to possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, as well as drug possession.
Police have reiterated their commitment to maintaining a strong presence in high-risk communities, and urged residents to continue sharing information that can assist in the fight against crime.
