CCN Reporting
BOTRIVIER:– Local police have been praised for their swift response after a group of armed robbers targeted at least two spaza shops, on Thursday, 14 August.
Although police have yet to officially confirm all the details, at least three suspects were reportedly arrested. One was apprehended in Succession One Lane, while two others were caught near the N2 at the lower entrance to town, where their getaway vehicle allegedly landed in a ditch.
It is not yet clear how many robbers were involved in total.
According to reports, the suspects first robbed a shop in Phase 2 before attempting another hit at Midnight Cash Store. There, police intercepted them, sparking a high-speed chase.
This is the second armed robbery in the area in less than a week. On Saturday evening, 9 August, the popular local venue Portia’s Place was also robbed.
The Botrivier/Caledon Community Policing Forum (CPF) is being urged to take a firm stance against what appears to be a wave of organised robberies.
For years, residents have called for security cameras with LPR (License Plate Recognition) technology to be installed at the town’s entrances – a move that would not only deter criminals but also assist law enforcement in tracking suspects more effectively.
Residents deserve to feel safe in their shops, gathering spots, and public spaces.
