Cape Town:- The body of an unidentified homeless woman was discovered on top of a stationary train at Cape Town Railway Station on Sunday afternoon.

According to police, the woman,  believed to be in her late 40s,  is thought to have fallen from an upper deck area above the platform where she had been sleeping.  She sustained fatal head injuries.

Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk confirmed that an inquest has been opened and that no foul play is suspected.

Detective Sergeant Shaun Isaacs is leading the investigation to establish the woman’s identity.

PRASA Western Cape also responded to the incident. Early reports suggested electrocution, but emergency personnel confirmed that the woman died from a fall and was not electrocuted.
